HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two Houston Police Department officers were injured in a hit-and-run early Sunday while responding to a stabbing call in northeast Houston, according to officials.
According to officials, the crash happened near Homestead and Peyton, just after midnight.
The officers were driving northbound to assist in a stabbing call when the suspect suddenly pulled out in front of them from a side street, and they crashed.
The impact caused the officers to hit a tree before a small fire sparked.
"Shortly after the accident took place, their patrol vehicle caught on a small fire. We're so glad that a good Samaritan, one of the wrecker drivers, were one of the first ones to arrive on scene, and he was able to assist the officers and get them out of the vehicle and get them to safety," said Lt. Ali with HPD.
HPD said both were transported with minor injuries and are expected to be OK.
Officials said they have information on the suspect, who took off.
"Also, our suspect fled the scene. We have information on him. I'm sure that will be released later on sometime, but the Fox Division was also out assisting us in locating the suspect. We were not able to as of right now," Lt. Ali said.
Both officers have been with the department for a year.
Lt. Ali said it is believed the officers were driving with their lights and sirens on.
